iPhone hand waving voodoo

So I got this shiny new iPhone 3G, but my Mail.app would quit as soon as I started it, and no number of restores would fix it... - Bad Mail.app! A litte searching on Google found this little "gem":http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7540260, which has a nice little solution to this problem. bq. 1. Restore your phone (back it up before restore) 2. Once phone is restored, the iTunes iPhone welcome screen comes on (set up as new account, restore from previous phone). Leave it alone. 3. Disconnect the phone. The home screen should pop up. Click on the Mail app. This is where it should have been crashing, but now you can see the logos (Yahoo, GMail, AOL, etc.). Click on one of the icons, then click cancel to get back to the home screen. 4. Plug in phone. See iTunes iPhone welcome screen again. 5. Click Restore. 6. Mail should work now. If this is not hand waving voodoo, I don't know what is... I had the same problem on my old iPhone 1.1.4 which I fixed it by setting the proper permissions on the mail directory - Man I miss "MobileTerminal":http://code.google.com/p/mobileterminal/ and ssh access.
